MARICOPA
The Maricopa Residence is located on a 4-acre parcel in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles. Sitting amongst large, undevelopable lots, the property has a very rural ambiance for a property so close to downtown Los Angeles. The landscape design seeks to juxtapose the hard lines of the Modernist house with the natural landscape surrounding it.
The plantings at the Maricopa Residence consist almost entirely of native plants that root the property in the surrounding wild lands. Outdoor living areas adjacent to the residence maintain an order consistent with the architecture, while other living spaces around the property have a more rugged feel. A biofiltration swale cleans runoff from adjacent streets, and a constructed wetland invites wildlife onto the property.
