GARFIELD

Located in Venice. California, the Garfield Residence is a modern structure built with sustainable design in mind. With passive solar heating and radiant floor heating, the home utilizes resource-conserving materials and technologies. In the garden spaces California native and climate-adapted plants are used to create a low water-use and low maintenance landscape. 

To visually simplify the long, narrow outdoor living space, the dining area is sunken, allowing the eye to travel through the landscape and over the top of the built-in bench and table. Surface runoff is captured and directed to an infiltration basin, preventing it from entering the city storm drain system.
